info on edward button on the farm spitskop in lydenburg
Like so many of the towns in this area, Sabie's history is tied up with gold. The first amounts worth exploiting were found by James Sutherland, Tom McLachlan and Edward Button in 1871 at Spitskop, a short distance to the south-east of the town. Sabie was built in 1844 on the farm Grootfontein, which first belonged to the Badenhorst brothers.
